Krvavica is situated in the central part of Croatian coast, on the Makarska Riviera, in the unique liaison of the Biokovo mountain, green pine wood, white pebble beach and crystal pure sea. The beach extends toward the town of Makarska, with numerous bays, protected from the curious eyes. The peace of these bays is interrupted only by the sound of the sea, caws of seagulls and crickets.

There is a supermarket in Krvavica, tourist bureau, three restaurants, two coffee shops, bowling, diving club, marina with 150 joints, dry docks, and a crane for the boats up to 8 tons. The promenade alongshore extends to 4 km towards Makarska and 6 km towards Baška Voda and Brela.

It is 46.8 km long with an average width of 5.3 to 7.8 km, covering an area of 270 square kilometers and is the sixth largest island in the Adriatic Sea. As it is one of the four migratory routes for birds from Northern and Central Europe to Asia it is the largest reserve of wading birds in the region and is thus symbolically, trademark of the Hutovo Lake great egret. The official name of the park is Karaotok. This used to be an island, and today is actually wooded hill that is, watching from a distance, standing out from the surrounding area, with its dark color, which is how it got its name. This area is located about 15 kilometers from the Adriatic Sea, so it is heavily influenced by the Mediterranean climate, and the high level of ground water affects the occurrence of permanent and temporary wells and springs.
